Penn Highlands Healthcare Announces $9 Million Investment to Expand Services at PH Huntingdon
Since becoming part of Penn Highlands Healthcare in 2019, care for the residents of Huntingdon County has been enhanced with the introduction of several new services and providers locally as well as improving access to care. Following this commitment to enhance care provided in our communities, Penn Highlands Healthcare is excited to announce the kick-off of $9 million in projects to expand services at Penn Highlands Huntingdon.
Starting in October 2021, Leonard S. Fiore, Inc. will begin construction of a new behavioral health unit. The new unit will move to the 3rd floor of the hospital and increase inpatient beds from fourteen to twenty-eight. This $3 million project is expected to be completed and open in June 2022 pending final approvals.
Construction of the infusion/oncology suite is expected to follow the same timeline. A $1.5 million project, this new service for the community will include sixteen treatment bays. All current and new infusion and oncology services will be located on the 3rd floor of the hospital.
In December 2021, upgrades will begin to install brand new Siemens equipment into the Cath lab. This $750,000 project is expected to take 6-8 weeks to complete. During construction, PH Huntingdon patients will continue to receive the same Cath lab care with the use of a mobile unit.
Together, these projects will represent fifteen new employees to PH Huntingdon.
A conversion of PH Huntingdon's infrastructure of the EMR system from Meditech to Cerner is also slated to kick off in October 2021. The benefit of this $4 million project will be to better align services and communications across the healthcare system, making it more efficient for employees as well as patients. The first phase of this project is expected to be in place and live July 2022.
In a period of two years since PH Huntingdon joined the Penn Highlands healthcare system, they have been able to stabilize finances with the help of more than $10 million in routine capital equipment. Modernizing, improving and expanding upon the services we offer reflects Penn Highlands Healthcare’s transformation journey to become a high reliability organization, providing safe and quality patient care. This is an exciting time for Penn Highlands Healthcare and the communities we serve.
